Towards Tomorrow - An investment in people

We want to invest in people - our guests and our Community
We want to invest in people - our guests and our Community

For 60 years, Lee Abbey has had people at its heart. Our vision is to share Christ through relationships, and the ministry of Lee Abbey Devon in particular has been used by God to touch hundreds of thousands of lives, as week after week guests tell of the refreshment, envisioning and empowering they have received.

Lee Abbey Devon has never had a paid staff, but a vibrant Community, currently made up of people from 20 different nationalities.

Besides the beautiful setting and the good food, teaching and worship, a highlight for many guests is sharing the Community’s life for a few days.

So it’s not surprising that so many guests have already given their resounding ‘Yes’ to plans to invest in facilities for both guests and Community. We want to communicate to you our passion not so much for bricks and mortar but for people.

Community members come from all over the world

Many Community members leave family thousands of miles away, resign from a good job or sell a house or business to come to Lee Abbey. We want to honour that commitment by offering adequate accommodation, now and in the future.

Among the present Community, as in the past 60 years, morale is high, creativity is flourishing and commitment to the vision is clearly evident. It’s wonderful to see people’s gifts developing – especially in the area of leadership – and later to hear the effect on their future development and calling. All over the world, there are people in key positions within the Church, education, business, finance and the arts who would say their time at Lee Abbey, either at the House or on the Camp Team, has been foundational to everything else they’ve done.

We believe God wants to continue to use Lee Abbey’s distinctive ethos and vision in the task of renewing and serving the Church, building community, and being God’s welcome.

Finally, we are in consultation to ensure that the new buildings are, in the way they are constructed and operate, a shining example of our commitment to protecting the environment.

Through the testimony of schools, groups and many others who have already booked more than once, God has proved to us beyond doubt that the first phase of this development, The Beacon Youth & Outdoor Activity Centre, was built, paid for and operates through his grace and provision.

You can help the vision of Lee Abbey continue to be realised, and see many more lives changed, by supporting this second phase of development. Thank you in anticipation of your support.
