Silent Retreats

Would you like to spend some time apart to be with God, to hear Him, with plenty of peace and quiet?

Lee Abbey offers the freedom and space for you to do so. We also offer particular weeks with reflective teaching and periods of silence.

"Spiritually renewing and deepening"

What does the daily programme entail?

There will be a balanced programme of worship, daily addresses, walks, opportunities for creativity and time for prayer and reading. However, there is no pressure to join in with anything. You are free to do as much or as little as you would like.

"There is such an atmosphere of peace and calm here"

How much guidance will I receive?

The guest speaker will give talks or reflections each day, which we hope will help you seek God. The Lee Abbey Pastoral Team will also be available to talk and pray with you, if you would like to.

"The Lord met with me in a very wonderful way."

What if I can't cope with being silent?

All retreats include periods of silence as well as opportunities for talking. On "silent days", all the meals will be in silence with light background music. Apart from mealtimes, the silence is not compulsory and you are free to talk. We only ask that you respect the silence in the main areas of the House and do not disturb other guests. Many guests find that they come closer to others in the silence, and that is often reflected in the conversations after the silent period.

When are the next silent retreats?

Individually guided retreats

We occasionally offer the ability to do an individually guided retreat, with one hour per day with a guide. These retreats happen on quieter Monday-Friday weeks when other guests are here, and are limited in number. See the programme for details of when these are.
